Most people know how important it is to look good at an office holiday party. Not only does a nice outfit help make a good impression in front of your boss and colleagues, it also sends the message that you are professional.

However, when it comes to celebrating the holiday season with your friends or in more of an informal environment, the rules are a little bit different. If you need some ideas on how to ensure you look like a 10, then read over the tips below from People Magazine:

1) Wear a bustier top with cigarette pants and fun shoes
It's no wonder that Gwyneth Paltrow loves this look – she's got a killer figure! If you want to show off what you've got in a classy and stylish way, then a metallic top, matching pants and designer shoes like Cesare Paciotti's red suede pumps are the way to go.

2) Don a red sequin mini dress
What other time of the year is it going to be perfectly acceptable and even encouraged by others to wear a short, sparkly red dress to a party? Add a red cocktail ring and metallic pumps for some extra bling.

3) Go for the gold…rose gold, that is
If you aren't a fan of traditional Christmas colors like red and green, then another chic option you have is sporting a dress that is rose gold. This color looks good on everyone and looks incredible with silver shoes and matching hoop earrings.

4) Don't forget about the white items in your closet
That saying about how wearing white after labor day is a faux pas is so last season. When paired with a black top, a white peplum skirt is a winning combination whatever time of the year it is!
